Mrs. Lincoln’s Rival by Jennifer Chiaverini PDF Download Free here. While the relationship between Abraham Lincoln and his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, has been widely studied and debated, few have considered the possibility that Mrs. Lincoln might have had a rival in her husband’s affections before she even entered the White House. While she was married to Abraham Lincoln’s political rival, Mary Todd was caught up in an affair with another man who became one of her husband’s fiercest political rivals when he was elected President.
Overview About “Mrs. Lincoln’s Rival” by “Jennifer Chiaverini “
The wife of Abraham Lincoln’s former law partner competes with Mary Todd Lincoln for the president’s attention and support in an era when women were viewed as little more than accessories, their role in life that of homemakers. Inspired by a real-life scandal involving Mary Todd Lincoln and a woman who claimed to be her husband’s mistress, CHIAVERINI weaves historical details into a fast-paced story of intrigue, romance, and determination—all against a backdrop of sweeping social change, from midnight horse races to transcontinental railroads to battles over slavery. The results are at once suspenseful and inspiring: how one woman coped with all these changes while staying true to herself, her family, and her country.
Reviews About “Mrs. Lincoln’s Rival” by “Jennifer Chiaverini”
The cover of My Name is Mary Sutter is simple yet intriguing, and obviously relates to both books as they are both historical fiction set in America during or around the time of WWI. The title of A Treasury of Mrs. Lincoln’s White House Recipes makes it sound like a cookbook, but it isn’t; instead, it is a book full of interesting details about Mary Todd Lincoln’s life. The title of Mrs. Lincoln’s Rival: A Novel makes me wonder if there was ever any proof that she had a rival, and what made her lose to her competitor? It sounds like a suspenseful novel! I also like how these titles relate to each other because one is based on a real person while another is fictional.
I would definitely read these two books together because they have so much in common each other, which will make them more fun to read together. If you are interested in learning more about Mary Todd Lincoln and her role as First Lady then I would recommend reading My Name Is Mary Sutter first before reading Mrs. Lincoln’s Rival because you will learn more about her background when you read them in order. I would recommend reading A Treasury of Mrs. Lincoln’s White House Recipes last because it does not directly relate to either book and can be enjoyed without having read either one first! I really enjoyed reading both of these books and hope you do too!
