Review About “The Giving Quilt” by “Jennifer Chiaverini”

The Giving Quilt has made such a big impact on my life and I believe it will do so on yours too. This book is about how love, family, and a giving spirit can overcome almost anything. In these trying times where sometimes we can feel helpless, it’s important to remember that when we help one another we are always better off as a result. This novel reminded me of many other wonderful books including The Great Gatsby (Fitzgerald), Siddhartha (Hesse), Flowers for Algernon (Keyes), A Tale of Two Cities (Dickens), and many more like them: all books with at least one main character who undergoes an amazing transformation during their lifetime.

My favorite aspect of The Giving Quilt was its ability to tell a beautiful story while also teaching some very valuable lessons. It is written in first-person narrative from multiple perspectives which allows us to get inside each character’s head and see what they are thinking and feeling. It also allows us to get inside Mrs. Sutterfield’s head, which helps us understand her motivations throughout the entire story. And finally, it allows us to understand Mr. Sutterfield’s head which gives insight into his decision-making process in regards to his wife and son Benjy—who he treats differently than his daughter Mary because he feels she doesn’t need him like Benjy does—which ultimately leads him down a dark path…and then back again!
