About “Robert Jordan” the author of “Crossroads of Twilight”

Robert Jordan was born in 1948 in Charleston, South Carolina. He taught himself to read when he was four with the incidental aid of a twelve-years-older brother and was tackling Mark Twain and Jules Verne by five. He claims his education ceased when he reached the sixth grade, but his dedication did not. He reportedly devoted all of his time outside class to voracious reading, mostly science fiction and fantasy novels. His earliest literary efforts were limited to what he calls star wars stories written for friends at about age eight or nine (and which never progressed beyond their original single page), tales reminiscent of Flash Gordon that featured space ships shooting laser beams at each other.
