Lauren Groff’s Fates and Furies is one of the most well-crafted, enthralling, heartbreaking, and beautiful novels I’ve read in a long time. An exciting read about marriage, love, truth, and lies. This will be one of those books that linger with you long after you’ve finished reading it, forcing you to think about the characters in the book and their actions for weeks to come. I simply cannot recommend this novel enough!

Overview About “Fates and Furies” by “Lauren Groff”

This novel is also divided into two distinct parts. The first half of Fates and Furies is told from Lotto’s perspective; it follows his childhood, college years, marriage to a beautiful actress named Mathilde, and early success as a playwright in New York City. This part of the story appears to be heavily influenced by Greek mythology (which Lotto quotes liberally). Though it’s never quite clear what connections Groff is drawing between her characters and their famous counterparts—beyond simply invoking them.

Reviews About “Fates and Furies” by “Lauren Groff”

What’s it about? I’m not sure where to start. One of my pet peeves in a book is when you have a vague, cliché synopsis of what it’s about without anything meaningful or deep. This one doesn’t do that. You have some depth – if only a little – into what it’s about, which I appreciated! The basic premise is Lotto and Mathilde are a couple; Lotto is an actor/director who takes off to follow his dreams while Mathilde stays at home with their son. Their relationship moves in two different directions once they part: Lotto gets more successful with each year while Mathilde has her successes. But feels unnoticed because she was left behind to raise their son alone.
