To be honest, I wasn’t particularly excited about reading The Collapsing Empire. Why? Well, when it was first released, I put off reading it. Because I mistakenly assumed that it was a science fiction book that was part of a series. All I needed to know was that there would be more books to come. So instead of jumping right into The Collapsing Empire. Which is both a standalone and part of an ambitious new series from Tor Books called The Interdependency Series (which also includes two novellas. The Consuming Fire and The Last Colony). I decided to play catch-up and went on a bit of binge session with all three books in the series before settling in with my review copy of The Collapsing Empire.

John Michael Scalzi II (born June 5, 1969) is an American science fiction author. And the former president of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. He won a Hugo Award for his novel Old Man’s War (2005), and his works have been nominated for several other awards. His novel Redshirts won Best Novel at both the 2013 Hugo Awards and Locus Awards, making him one of nine writers to win two major annual science fiction awards in consecutive years. The final book in his Old Man’s War series, The Last Colony, was nominated for a Hugo Award for Best Novel in 2008; Zoe’s Tale, a spin-off from Old Man’s War, was nominated for a 2010 Hugo Award.
