In the world of science and medicine, the field of biochemistry has seen some pretty remarkable advances in just the last few decades. Nowhere is this more evident than in Lehninger Principles of Biochemistry Seventh Edition by Authors (David L. Nelson, Michael M. Cox). This text covers all aspects of biochemistry, with the new edition boasting almost 2,000 pages of very detailed information on everything from protein structure to macromolecular complexes to RNA/DNA transcription and translation to metabolic processes.

Overview About “Lehninger Principles of Biochemistry 7th Edition”

Lehninger Principles of Biochemistry is a leading biochemistry textbook. That has been widely used in undergraduate and graduate curricula for more than 30 years. It incorporates state-of-the-art teaching approaches as well as recent advances in biochemical research and pedagogy into one comprehensive volume. The Seventh Edition features highly acclaimed authors David L. Nelson and Michael M. Cox, a streamlined layout for easier reading, and numerous new full-color illustrations to enhance visual learning. This edition also reflects new developments in cell biology with updated coverage on lipid rafts and focal adhesion complexes; plus added analysis on transcription factors that promote growth factor signaling to control gene expression during development.

Reviews About “Lehninger Principles of Biochemistry 7th Edition”

The authors make an attempt to tie in both biochemistry and molecular biology into a single textbook. But it’s hard to take such a broad topic and make it comprehensible at times. I was always aware that I was missing major details regarding molecular biology concepts that were mentioned so quickly as to be irrelevant to what was being covered in biochemistry. But also you can’t ignore that since these are two fundamental aspects of biology. So if you’re going to cover one – then why not talk about both? With all that said, there is nothing really wrong with reviewing concepts as they have here. However, they do leave out some important issues like discussing enzyme inhibition. Which is important for understanding medicine and disease!

About “David L. Nelson, Michael M. Cox” the Authors

David L. Nelson is Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and co-editor in chief for Biochimica et Biophysica Acta and Bioinorganic Chemistry and Technology. He earned his Ph.D. from Columbia University in biophysics with a concentration in enzymology under Arthur Kornberg who won a Nobel Prize for discovering DNA polymerase I along with colleagues Matthew Meselson and Frank Stahl. His interest also lies in forensic toxicology; he led a team that studied residues on murder weapons to determine time since last use and user gender as well as substances found on victims’ bodies to trace their movements before death.
