I like these books a lot. I use them as my primary text in my Differential Equations course when I teach at an alternative education school. They are very clearly written, concise, but cover all of what one should know about differential equations to be well prepared for upper-level courses. These books give more substance than typical textbooks that focus on just formulas for solving ODEs and DEs which is useful but leaves out many things that are of interest like how to deal with non-linear systems or boundary value problems. If you’re interested in learning why something works instead of just getting a formula then these books are perfect!

William E. Boyce is professor emeritus at Cornell University and Richard C. DiPrima is a professor of mathematics at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California. Both authors have long histories with established backgrounds in education and academia.
