It is a very good resource for learning differential equations at an intermediate level or even at an introductory level. The step-by-step approach taken throughout most of the book helps to make it a must-have for any college student. Who is working on differential equations or studying for their exams? Another unique aspect about it is that it also provides some actual applications of these ideas which make it not only more interesting. But also gives you an edge over others in understanding what you are reading about. It does have a decent amount of practice problems for each chapter as well as a number of extra problems that give you a good insight into solving more complex problems in subsequent chapters.
About the Authors
William E. Boyce is a Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. His main field of research was ordinary differential equations and he continues to be an active researcher in that area today. He is a prolific author and has written over seventy-five papers with thirty or more coauthors; twenty-four books or chapters in books; several hundred peer-reviewed articles; edited two journals for ten years; given over 500 presentations at meetings around the world and won many awards for his teaching as well as his research work…etc.
