Linear Algebra and Its Applications 5th Edition is one of the best books available on linear algebra. Which has been written by David Lay, Steven Lay, and Judi McDonald. The book explains in detail all the fundamental concepts of linear algebra, along with the applications that were developed over the years by mathematicians. The book has been split into two parts. And we are going to take a look at both of them one by one.

Overview About “Linear Algebra and Its Applications (5th Edition)”

Linear algebra provides a good introduction to mathematical concepts of importance in several areas of science and engineering. There are many computational methods based on linear algebra that have transformed scientific research in many fields. Thus an understanding of linear algebra is essential for most physical scientists. This book has enjoyed tremendous success as the first textbook for undergraduates taking a one-semester course on linear algebra. Written with clarity and precision, it motivates students to study through interesting applications to problems in physics, chemistry, computer science, economics, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering; discrete mathematics is integrated throughout by way of matrix manipulations.

Reviews About “Linear Algebra and Its Applications (5th Edition)”

The past few years have seen a flood of textbooks on Linear Algebra for undergraduate students. It is difficult to remember when there was not a book called Understanding Linear Algebra, Introductory Linear Algebra. OR A First Course in Linear Algebra. The purpose of these books seems to be to cover as much material as possible with minimal prerequisites and even fewer exercises. In comparison, Linear Algebra and its Applications 5e have no exercises at all! Yet it works because it focuses on algorithms (rather than tricks) and applications. Readers will find that they are well prepared for differential equations, multivariable calculus, statistics, etc. because they learned to analyze problems using linear algebra. Many teachers recommend their book because the proofs are right there!
