Einstein, the iconic genius and revolutionary scientist, was one of the 20th century’s most original thinkers. Drawing on extensive new material from private papers and journals, Walter Isaacson reveals an Einstein more familiar than the icon of physics today but at the same time still surprising — a man who battled intolerance, European prejudices, and feelings of inferiority; who took on America’s scientific establishment to establish modern theoretical physics in the United States; and whose political views were as flexible as they were controversial.

Overview About “Einstein” by “Walter Isaacson”

Few figures in history have captured our imagination like Albert Einstein. The German-born physicist developed an unprecedented theory of gravity, won a Nobel Prize for his work on photoelectricity, and transformed our understanding of space and time with his general theory of relativity. Though he was destined to be an icon from childhood—his father founded a distinguished school that aimed to educate independent thinkers like Albert—the adult Einstein spent many years alone and unhappy. Friends such as author H.G. Wells visited him regularly in his later years when illness kept him sequestered at home; after several decades away from scientific pursuits, Einstein found joy again at Princeton University where he lived until his death.

Review About “Einstein” by “Walter Isaacson”

I haven’t been reading much lately. However, I downloaded a free Kindle sample of Einstein: His Life and Universe by Walter Isaacson, and it rekindled my love for reading. I love biographies—especially ones that explore how an individual achieved great success or notoriety. Einstein is one of those individuals whose actions changed our world dramatically—the way we think about science, our place in the universe, etc.—and it was fascinating to read about his path to doing so. (By path I mean that some sections were less interesting than others.) Overall, I recommend downloading a sample if you have time to spare on a bus ride or something similar; it would make for an engaging read!

About “Waiter Isaacson” the author of “Einstein”

Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, Germany, in 1879. His passion for physics bloomed early and he became a researcher at age 17. After years of toiling away at his craft, he finally received his doctorate from Zurich Polytechnic and went on to teach physics. In 1905 he published four papers that changed our understanding of space and time—one year later. He was invited to join Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Physics in Berlin. Where he would become director of its Institute for Theoretical Physics. He remained there until 1933 when Hitler’s rise to power forced him into exile. Einstein lived as a refugee in several countries before settling at Princeton University as a professor of theoretical physics.
