Novelist Michael Crichton was raised in Roslyn, New York, earned a degree in anthropology from Harvard University. And went on to work at various jobs including a stint as an editor for a medical journal. After quitting his job as an editor, he spent several years traveling around Europe and Asia before returning to Boston and getting a doctorate in medicine from Harvard Medical School. He remained at Harvard Medical School until 1968 when he decided to pursue writing full-time. In addition to novels (including The Andromeda Strain, Congo, and Jurassic Park), he also wrote screenplays for films such as Westworld and Eaters of the Dead. He died in 2008 after succumbing to cancer.

Eaters of The Dead is an outtake from Michael Crichton’s unfinished novel, ‘Pirate Latitudes.’ Eaters of The Dead was published as a short story and takes place during what would have been Blackbeard’s final days on earth. This short story has no literary merit whatsoever and belongs on a shelf next to E.L. James’ Fifty Shades of Grey or Twilight in its groan-inducing efforts to appeal to sex-starved tweens – ew! I am finding it difficult to put into words how truly awful Eaters Of The Dead is without being unnecessarily cruel and mean. So I will try my best to be nice.

Considered one of today’s leading writers and creative minds, Michael Crichton has written numerous works for both theater and film. He is best known for his novel Jurassic Park. Which was later made into a successful motion picture. As well as The Andromeda Strain, The Great Train Robbery, and Congo. His works have also inspired several other highly successful movies including The Americanization of Emily, Coma, and Rising Sun. In 1994 he was awarded a special Edgar Award from The Mystery Writers Association for his outstanding achievements in mystery writing. For some time he considered himself retired from writing novels to concentrate on his film career. But recently returned to fiction with Travels which was published in September 1999.
