Gayle Forman’s new book, Just One Day, comes out next week and I can’t wait to read it! I was lucky enough to receive an advanced reader copy of the book. And I must say it’s one of the best books I’ve read this year. The plot follows two young people who decide to go on an impromptu road trip together after meeting in Paris. But their day together sparks an intense friendship that continues when they reunite in New York City several years later.

Back in London, Allyson learns that although Willem remembers every detail of their time together. Where they ate and what songs were playing on the radio. He can’t recall her name or face. While others would find his behavior disturbing, Allyson is instead strangely compelled…and she’s not entirely sure why.

I read Just One Day while I was on a cruise. I usually don’t bring a book with me, but since my sister convinced me to read it. She thought it would be fun if we compared notes on our books. Unfortunately, I had such a hard time getting into it that my sister finished her book before I had even gotten halfway through mine. The writing style just didn’t appeal to me at all and made parts of her story feel really slow-paced and draggy (in a way that did not contribute to an intriguing plot). While there were some aspects of her characters that were interesting, as well as well-developed, overall it just wasn’t for me.
