In her first book, Quiet, bestselling author Susan Cain argues that we dramatically undervalue introverts and shows how much we lose in doing so. She charts the rise of the Extrovert Ideal throughout the twentieth century. And explores how deeply it has come to permeate our culture. She also introduces us to successful introverts—from a witty, high-octane public speaker who recharges in solitude after his talks, to a record-breaking salesman who quietly taps into the power of questions.

Overview About “Quiet” by “Susan Cain”

Quiet is a book about introverts. Do you feel like an introvert? Even if you aren’t completely sure, it’s okay. This book will take you through a self-assessment to see how much of an introvert you are and what that means for your life. The personality type as shown in Quiet is not really different from that of an extrovert. But they have a preference towards one extreme or another in their lifestyle. And behavior depending on external circumstances around them. They prefer a calm environment without too much activity or commotion surrounding them and feel more comfortable in solitude than being surrounded by numerous people. Whether people like it or not. These individuals are usually extremely shy. Which may make them very nervous when confronted with new situations.

Reviews About “Quiet” by “Susan Cain”

Quiet is not so much about how to help introverts succeed in a world that seems tailor-made for extroverts. Rather, it’s an excellent and articulate reminder that these are two very different species — with different needs, drives and wiring. As an introvert myself (I took one of those validating quizzes at some point), I find it comforting and encouraging. But ultimately, Quiet offers valuable insights and advice for both personality types. In fact, at times I felt like I was reading one person’s story while being reminded that they weren’t me. This is high praise indeed when it comes to nonfiction — especially when you’re writing a book on such a complicated subject as human psychology.

About “Susan Cain” the author of “Quiet”

In 1991, when she was 24 years old, Susan Cain decided to pursue a Ph.D. in organizational psychology at Harvard University after struggling through her first year of law school. Over time, she found herself increasingly drawn to a question that had been posed by one of her professors: If a person could choose only one thing that mattered in life—money or meaning—what would he or she choose? After three years of research and interviews with more than 250 men and women representing all walks of life. He gave an answer that surprised no one more than himself: He chose to mean. What people desired most wasn’t money; it was feeling that their lives had purpose and significance.
