Exercise Physiology: Theory and Application to Fitness and Performance 9th Edition by Authors (Scott Powers, Edward Howley). It takes the reader from the basics of exercise physiology through to how each body system adapts to exercise. And how this, in turn, can be applied in training to improve fitness and performance. Throughout there are extensive references made to how science has been translated into successful practice and training regimes of elite athletes. As well as the clinical applications for rehabilitating patients with musculoskeletal disorders, cardiorespiratory problems, diabetes, cancer, and so on.
Overview About “Exercise Physiology: Theory and Application to Fitness and Performance”
Exercise Physiology has been thoroughly updated to reflect today’s content on anatomy and physiology. Written for undergraduate students in exercise science, athletic training, sports medicine, health education, and physical education programs. While not an exhaustive reference on exercise physiology. It provides a solid foundation of knowledge in all areas of exercise science. Examines topics such as cellular energetics; skeletal muscle structure and function; body fluid homeostasis; nervous system control of human performance; thermoregulation; cardiovascular function; stress responses and adaptation; respiratory function. Presents guidelines for testing fitness components as well as preparing students to pass major certification exams (i.e., ACSM-PES). Discuss nutrition supplements that enhance sports performance.
