There is no cinderella. but there is a Snow White. Vasilisa Vasilyevna becomes wrapped up in a dangerous world of magic and spirits when her stepmother declares she must be married to a powerful prince or they will all be killed. However, unlike snow white where it was said that she could only fall for someone of royal blood (so no one fell for her), Vasilisa falls in love with an older peasant boy named Konstantin.
About “Katherine Arden” the Author of “The Bear and the Nightingale”
Katherine Arden has worked as a historian, medievalist, archivist, archaeologist, and college instructor. She graduated from Tufts University in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in European history. While earning her master’s degree at Harvard University in 1994, she wrote her thesis on seventeenth-century Russian peasants. Her work has appeared in The Boston Globe, Los Angeles Times, and Providence Journal. She currently lives in Seattle with her husband and three children where she writes full time.
