Lisa Halliday’s debut novel, Asymmetry, is on just about every Best of 2018 list, and with good reason. It’s a literary romp through the worlds of academia and finance with an unlikeable narrator who maintains your sympathy throughout. Not an easy feat! The book alternates perspectives between our protagonist, Tyler, and his lover Lina, allowing us to see the same events through two different eyes as they unfold in real-time.
Overview About “Asymmetry” by “Lisa Halliday”
Asymmetry is a book that describes itself as brilliant, unfriendly, and enormous. The book follows a young woman, who happens to be an aspiring writer and graduate student at Columbia University in New York City. Her story explores topics such as freedom of speech, wartime atrocities, and racism, along with love and marriage – two things that are often explored in novels but rarely done well. In short, Asymmetry is unlike any other book you will have read; it took me several pages just to get used to its novelistic style.
