New Spring is a prequel to The Wheel of Time series, written by American author Robert Jordan and published in January 2004. It consists of three novellas set before events in The Eye of the World. The first two, The Strike at Shayol Ghul and The Minion of. are both set during an actual invasion of Shara, an Asian-like continent far east of Randland. They feature Matrim Cauthon, Elayne Trakand, and Nynaeve al’Meara as viewpoint characters; they also introduce a number of important plot points that will later become major elements in The Wheel of Time series.

The third novella, New Spring, takes place after these events and features Moiraine Damodred as its main character. This story introduces Egwene al’Vere, who becomes one of the main protagonists in The Wheel of Time series. In addition to these stories, there is a prologue called The First Message (which was originally released on Tor’s website), consisting of letters between several characters, most notably between Moiraine Damodred and Siuan Sanche (who become key figures in both The Wheel of Time series and Aes Sedai).

What can I say about New Spring? Robert Jordan was a unique individual who wrote amazing books and introduced me to a wonderful world. His death was tragic and many of us that are fans of his work haven’t heard much about what is going on in regards to his legacy. New Spring, as stated above, is one of several new books being released in conjunction with A Memory of Light. It is meant to serve as an introduction for new readers and continue some storylines set forth in The Eye of The World (the first book in The Wheel Of Time series). Most importantly it will conclude one story arc that has been over a decade long. Many of us have followed along with these characters before we were even teenagers and have grown up alongside them.

We’ve watched their lives play out like they were our own. We lived through their hardships, laughed at their jokes, cried when they did, and rejoiced when they finally got something they wanted after years of struggle. This isn’t just a novel; it is more than that. It is a piece of art created by someone who loved what he did so much he poured every ounce of himself into creating something beautiful—something that transcended beyond words on paper or pixels on screens to become part of our lives forever… Now we wait patiently for more stories from those characters whom we love so dearly…

About “Robert Jordan” the author of “New Spring”

Robert Jordan was born in 1948 in Charleston, South Carolina. He taught himself to read when he was four with the incidental aid of a twelve-years-older brother and was tackling Mark Twain and Jules Verne by five. He is a graduate of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, with a degree in physics. He served two tours in Vietnam with the U.S. Army; among his decorations are two Silver Stars, a Bronze Star with V and two Oak Leaf Clusters, and three Purple Hearts. A history buff, he also wrote dance and theatre criticism.
