Christmas Bells is historical fiction. The story is about two sisters, Georgiana and Olivia, who lost their parents in the early days. In order to support themselves they had to come to live with their wealthy aunt and uncle, but being poor relations they were considered practically outsiders. Things change one Christmas when Olivia’s true love comes back from his sea voyage as Captain Lawson and asks for her hand in marriage. He does not realize that he has been missing for years and now his long-lost betrothed has married another man who has already accepted his new position as Postmaster of Williamsburg. What will happen? Can she go against her family’s wishes? Will she be able to keep her promise given years ago? Will she find happiness at last? Read it and find out!
Review About “Christmas Bells” by “Jennifer Chiaverini”
The highly respected Cornelia Kennedys of Cripple Creek, Colorado are at it again! I’ve never read anything by Jennifer Chiaverini that I didn’t like. This novella was no exception. This story is a reprint of one originally published in Three Christmas Novellas (Little Red Riding Hood Press) in 1998. It is just as good now as it was then and gives you a great way to enjoy time with your family before heading out to see what Santa brings you (or doesn’t). A perfect book for long winter nights when you can curl up next to a fire or even on an airplane while traveling home for Christmas.
Once again Ms. Chiaverini has written characters who leap off the page and into your heart. You will love them all: Charles, Celeste, Charlotte, Henry, and little Emily – even if she does have her mother’s temper! You will also fall in love with young Jack Kennedy who is trying so hard to be brave after his father dies suddenly. He has been left alone in an empty house except for his aunt Celeste’s cat Furry Face (Surface for short), but his spirit remains undaunted as he tries hard not to cry when he thinks about how much he misses his daddy.
