If you love fast-paced thrillers, the Crucible by James Rollins should be at the top of your list of books to read. Over the course of this book, you’ll travel all over the world while following Sam Capra as he attempts to uncover a global conspiracy before it’s too late. What makes this book so interesting is that it never slows down; with each chapter comes new twists and turns. And there’s never any time to stop and catch your breath before something else happens. Once you start reading this book, it’s impossible to put it down!

A couple of months ago, I was at my local bookstore when a customer approached me to ask for help with picking out a few books from one of his favorite authors. Being an avid reader myself, I was happy to help and ended up talking with him about several great titles. One of those books, Crucible by James Rollins, is actually one that he mentioned during our conversation. Unfortunately (for me), it hadn’t been published yet so I had to wait a while before I could get a copy for myself; but when it finally did come out in May 2013, I picked up a copy immediately! When I started reading it, however, I almost wished that I’d waited even longer because there are plenty of other readers out there who haven’t read it yet.

The plot moves quickly, and you won’t have time to figure out what will happen next before it does. Â I was genuinely surprised by some twists and turns! Â All in all, a good read with an interesting premise that kept me engaged until after midnight last night. But if you’re expecting nonstop action, you’ll probably be disappointed—the book is much more character-driven than action-driven. Also: no cliffhanger ending (which makes sense; if they wanted us to buy book two they’d end on a cliffhanger). Just know that most of the bad guys aren’t really revealed or dealt with by the book’s end (I feel like we’ve only just scratched their surface) and there is NO romance whatsoever…it’s basically just a straight-up sci-fi thriller.
