Overview About “The Raven Tower” by “Ann Leckie”

It is a fantasy novel of epic proportions, but also one that deals with weighty topics such as politics and class warfare. Written in Ann Leckie’s classic, no-frills style, it transports readers to another time and place. It begins with an inciting incident: a mother gives birth to three daughters, each of whom has a different father. The world is patriarchal, with women having few rights and opportunities for power. Each sister uses her unique strengths to stake out her own niche—and then uses them to play everyone else in order to win political power for herself and her family. The result is not pretty…but also fascinating from beginning to end. It’s clear why so many people have already picked up copies of The Raven Tower.

Reviews About “The Raven Tower” by “Ann Leckie”

The sequel to Ancillary Justice picks up a decade after that book left off. The protagonist, Breq, used to be an artificial intelligence who controlled a starship; now she is part of a group trying to right some wrongs and help those who have been subjugated for centuries on an atrophied world. But it’s also about interstellar colonization, human rights, and philosophy. Readers familiar with Ancillary Justice will know what to expect from The Raven Tower—except that there are many more viewpoints from different people affected by these issues. If you’ve enjoyed Leckie’s storytelling before, then you should enjoy what she does here again.
