Overview About “Ancillary Mercy” by “Ann Leckie”
Ancillary Justice was a surprise hit when it was released in 2013 and won all sorts of awards. It seemed to come out of nowhere but it wound up changing sci-fi forever. Perhaps surprisingly, Leckie’s follow-up novel was released mere months after Ancillary Justice. The fact that Leckie would turn around so quickly is an interesting phenomenon given how complex her writing style is; her books are certainly not difficult to read but they are remarkably dense with worldbuilding and political intrigue. As a result, Ancillary Sword reads more like a prequel than anything else; indeed, you can probably read either novel without needing to read its sequel.
