I found that overall I thoroughly enjoyed The Practice of Statistics. It was an excellent learning tool and will be a great reference when I need to refresh my knowledge of statistics. Overall, I enjoyed reading through The Practice of Statistics in preparation for my exams. For anyone looking to learn about how to perform statistical analysis in R and get comfortable with conducting hypothesis tests for a variety of situations. Overall: This book is very good at introducing concepts in basic statistics such as probability, common distributions used (e.g., normal distribution), and tests used to determine if data come from populations with known distributions such as t-tests and chi-squared tests; however there are limited other examples outside these concepts which may prove difficult for someone without any prior understanding.
About “Daren S. Starnes, Josh Tabor” the Authors
Daren Starnes and Josh Tabor serve as professors at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, where they teach various courses in probability and statistics. Daren is a former president of both Eastern Kentucky University and Ball State University; prior to entering academia, he served as a senior statistician at Ford Motor Company’s mathematical services group in Detroit. Josh spent his career as an electrical engineer with General Electric Company before joining Ball State’s Department of Mathematics as a part-time faculty member while working full-time for GE’s Water & Process Technologies division.
