A First Course in Differential Equations by Dennis G. Zill was written back in 1965. But it’s still one of the most popular texts on differential equations today. This book covers ordinary differential equations as well as partial differential equations and Fourier series analysis. You’ll find everything you need to learn about differential equations here, from basic concepts like y’ = ay to specialized concepts like linearized stability theory and Sobolev spaces.

Overview About “A First Course in Differential Equations: The Classic 5th Edition”

Now completely updated and reorganized, A First Course in Differential Equations remains a highly respected resource for students, instructors, and professionals. This bestselling text presents an accessible approach to differential equations using linear algebraic methods and focuses on modeling real-world problems. International in scope, it illustrates concepts with applications from science, engineering, business, biology, and other areas of study. The author introduces concepts gently and then builds from them steadily throughout more than 250 problems of varying difficulty to help readers build a solid understanding of each topic introduced.

Reviews About “A First Course in Differential Equations: The Classic 5th Edition”

This book is worth its price if only for Chapter 2 on first-order differential equations. Which covers sufficient material to merit publication as a monograph. I also enjoy using my old copy of A First Course in Differential Equations. And I recommend it to anyone who can still find it at a reasonable price. This textbook by Dennis G. Zill is written very well and provides a thorough treatment of basic differential equations with an excellent balance between theory and examples.
