I have just finished reading this book, Nursing Informatics and the Foundation of Knowledge 4th Edition by Authors (Dee McGonigle, Kathleen Mastrian). I have to say that it was the best book in my nursing career so far! The material was well structured and very easy to follow. Which is something that I always look out for in any book I read.
Overview About “Nursing Informatics and the Foundation of Knowledge 4th Edition”
Nursing informatics is an essential branch of nursing. It involves acquiring, organizing, storing, and retrieving healthcare information that is specific to health care delivery. This discipline focuses on increasing access to data through a knowledge management system (KMS). Some common applications used in healthcare are Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Patient Care Management System(PCMS), Computerized Provider Order Entry Systems(CPOE), etc. Based on the latest research findings, revisions have been done in the new edition which provides readers with a strong understanding of KMS. This book serves as an ideal resource for students enrolled in an undergraduate program. It can also be used as a reference for nurse practitioners and practitioners interested in implementing KMS.
Reviews About “Nursing Informatics and the Foundation of Knowledge 4th Edition”
The fact that it is about nursing informatics does not make it unappealing to non-nurses. I am a graduate student in public health and found it to be incredibly relevant. Even with only a cursory knowledge of medical terminology. The book provides insights into how technology can enhance clinical practice. The authors do a great job of exploring what we already know through evidence-based practice. While showing how new technologies can improve patient care while also saving time and money. They also discuss how government policies have played an important role in shaping information systems. But for concluding that despite those efforts much more needs to be done to ensure patient safety in our nation’s hospitals.
