After Kilimanjaro by Gayle Woodson is one of the most moving and relevant novels ever written. When it was first published in 1991, it caused quite a stir in the literary world, with its honest portrayal of race relations in the United States at that time—even though it’s set decades earlier.
Overview About “After Kilimanjaro” by “Gayle Woodson”
A review about After Kilimanjaro. The story is about a boy and his mom. They live in Tanzania and like to hike. But one day they get lost on an adventure. The story follows them as they meet new friends, learn how to survive, and try to find their way home. This book uses a lot of similes that help bring life into each chapter of what seems like a dry subject of hiking up a mountain with your parents, but Gayle’s descriptive writing makes you feel like you are there alongside them watching everything unfold in front of your eyes. You’ll find yourself on a roller coaster ride where you will laugh, cry, be sad, and happy all in one sitting!
Reviews About “After Kilimanjaro” by “Gayle Woodson”
I read After Kilimanjaro years ago, and it’s still one of my favorite books. It’s a funny story about a guy who wants to climb Mount Kilimanjaro (and talks his wife into going along with him, much to her chagrin) when he finds out that his company is going to lay him off. The book is laugh-out-loud funny in parts and has some beautiful descriptions of Africa as well. A must-read for anyone interested in travel writing or who just wants an entertaining book!
