Review About “Named of the Dragon” by “Susanna Kearsley”
Named of the Dragon is a historical fiction novel that intertwines characters’ present-day story and their appearance in medieval Scotland as they search for a lost treasure. The book describes itself as the true story of family legend, betrayal, magic, and love. It’s written beautifully; it flows along easily with rich descriptions and well-developed characters. It works on many levels—family saga, romance, adventure novel—but I didn’t think it was particularly fantastical or magical (not what I expected from a title that includes dragons). But that was fine; because I enjoyed reading about Scotland from its medieval days to today so much I thought more fantasy would have detracted from my enjoyment rather than added to it. Overall, I really liked this book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical fiction.
