Eclipse Phase Second Edition is a sci-fi role-playing game that utilizes a transhumanist setting. This means that rather than just pure fantasy elements, it introduces technology into its setting. Think science fiction and cyberpunk. That being said, Eclipse Phase is much more of a role-playing game than an actual story set in space. It does heavily rely on player-created content (such as character sheets) to be able to run any sort of campaign for more than just a one-shot session with friends. Additionally, if you enjoy military sci-fi themes with technology fused into them then you’ll likely have fun with Eclipse Phase as it’s very detailed and realistic when describing planets, space travel, and so forth; perfect for fans of Mass Effect or Halo games/novels!
About the Publisher
Since their release of Eclipse Phase in 2009, they’ve released a stream of excellent supplements and support material. But now, as of June 5th, 2017, they have a full-blown second edition. The game system is still strong and fluid (dare I say sleek?), so you can expect all your favorite characters to play just as well. In fact, if you have it in hardcopy form or PDF from the first edition (or downloaded them for free), then you can play immediately. All the character creation information is totally compatible with each other. Just change out whatever rules info has changed between first and second editions; usually, there isn’t much at all that needs changing.
