This book is great for people who are planning to take AP US history in a few months. In fact, it would be a good review of what students have learned in class. The book gives accurate historical knowledge and puts events into perspective. It has maps at the beginning of each chapter and introduces each era very well. Although some of it is dated because it hasn’t been revised since 2011. It still covers all aspects of United States history well enough that students can pass their exam with flying colors if they learn from this book first.

John J. Newman and John S. Schmalbach are co-authors of five textbooks in political science, as well as United States History: Preparing for The Advanced Placement Examination, Second Edition. Professor Newman teaches at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia; he has taught a variety of courses at both the community college and university levels over a 40-year career. Professor Schmalbach teaches in Fordham University’s Political Science Department; he has more than 35 years of experience working with students from K–16 settings across New York City.
