Overview About “A Long Walk to Water” by “Linda Sue Park”

The long walk begins in southern Sudan, where 10-year-old Nya and her little brother live with their mother and father. Their home is a small hut with no windows or doors, just a roof made of straw. As Christians in a country ruled by Muslims, they are treated as second-class citizens. They must attend separate schools from other children. At church services, they sit on their own side of the building under guard. Because it is forbidden for them to pray together with Muslims. And they have to pay any taxes that non-Christians do not have to pay. The people around them are starving because there is no rain and there are no crops.

Reviews About “A Long Walk to Water” by “Linda Sue Park”

To me, A Long Walk to Water was about more than just a young boy walking miles for water. It’s about poverty and how lucky we are in America. It is about loving your neighbors no matter what. It’s about never giving up hope even when you feel like there is none left. The author painted a beautiful picture with words. And I will never forget Yusuf and his mother Fatuma or that little girl who smiled while she held her goat on her back. You may not see it now, but someday your life will be different because of reading A Long Walk to Water. This is one of those books that shows you how thankful you should be for what you have–and maybe gives you an idea or two of ways to help others less fortunate than yourself!
