Overview About “The Shape of Family” by “Shilpi Somaya Gowda”
The Shape of Family is about immigrants. The main character, Neelam Mehra, was born in India and moved to America at an early age with her family. In many ways, Neelam feels like she has two separate lives. One in America and one in India. Both are separated from each other by an ocean. She watches her parents struggle between their Indian roots and life as American citizens with a typical American lifestyle. Which makes her question if that same problem will happen to her when she grows up.
Reviews About “The Shape of Family” by “Shilpi Somaya Gowda”
If you’re into historical fiction, then you’ll probably enjoy The Shape of Our Family. I didn’t know much about India’s struggle for independence. OR her caste system before reading it and found both areas to be very interesting. I also learned a lot about being a young widow. And what it was like to live through that in India during that time period. My one criticism is that there were a lot of unanswered questions at the end regarding characters from other countries. But those could just be things we’ll find out more about in future books. It definitely left me wanting more!
