On a Cold Dark Sea by Elizabeth Blackwell was an incredible read! The story follows several families. And their journeys through war and peace in mid-19th century England, Ireland, and the eastern United States. What I loved most about this book was how vividly the historical context comes alive on the page; I felt like I could actually see each character and place they lived as I read along. The writing was superb, and I highly recommend this novel to all historical fiction lovers! This novel would be especially helpful to anyone studying American history or anyone interested in Irish immigration to America during the 19th century!

Many years ago, I read an advance copy of Elizabeth Blackwell’s first novel, The Mistress of Nothing. It was one of my most favorite books ever! Many people were involved in ensuring it got published. But if I may be so bold, I’d like to think it was my review that made all of that possible. This month marks not only is her next novel released and about to hit major bestseller lists everywhere. But my chance to write a second review for her—one which will hopefully garner even more interest than her last book did when it was newly released.
