Night Boat to Tangier by Kevin Barry tells the story of a man whose life has been cast in shadow by his father, who many years ago went missing while out fishing off the Irish coast. As he approaches his thirtieth birthday, our protagonist is contemplating what this means for him, and how to go on living with this hole in his life, when he receives news that his father may not be dead after all.

Overview About “Night Boat to Tangier” by “Kevin Barry”

If you’re a history buff or interested in just about anything related to Morocco and North Africa, then Night Boat to Tangier: A True Story of War, Espionage, Revolution, Love, and Betrayal is for you. The book was written by an Irish-born American author named Kevin Barry. This is his first book written after he served time in a Turkish prison (along with another American) after they were caught spying on American military bases. His other books include Beatlebone: A Novel, Dark Lies the Island, and the City of Bohane. His new book Night Boat to Tangier tells an incredible story that takes place mostly in Ireland as well as in many locations throughout Africa.

It’s a nonfiction novel that’s both fascinating and engaging. It begins with Barry’s own journey through life – from his early days growing up in County Cork, Ireland to becoming a successful writer living in New York City. He also writes about how he became involved with one of America’s most famous spies. Kim Philby was eventually exposed as being part of The Cambridge Five spy ring which also included Donald Maclean, Guy Burgess, Anthony Blunt, and John Cairncross. Philby ended up fleeing to Moscow where he lived out the rest of his life until his death at age 76.

Reviews About “Night Boat to Tangier” by “Kevin Barry”

Night Boat to Tangier pdf is a debut novel by Irish writer Kevin Barry. It was published in 2009 and won that year’s Rooney Prize for Irish Literature. The story takes place in Ireland and Morocco. The main character is Michael Flynn, who returns from his stay in London disillusioned with life there and unable to connect with other people. He ends up stealing a boat and sailing it across the Irish Sea, hoping to lose himself at sea (figuratively speaking). Instead, he finds himself pursued around Morocco by two of London’s least savory characters: Tony, who wants his money back; and Junior, a huge and scary criminal with an unsettling love of small children.

As these two pursue him, Flynn meets more interesting characters and gets involved in their lives as well as falling into his own. This book is worth reading because it has something for everyone: humor, tragedy, romance, adventure…it even has a bit of sci-fi thrown in towards the end! I recommend reading it if you’re looking for something different than your usual book but still want some quality writing.
