Andrzej Sapkowski (born June 21, 1948) is a Polish fantasy writer. He was born in 1948 in Poland but spent his childhood in Zamość. After studying economics at the University of Warsaw, he began writing in the late 1970s. His first short story, The Witcher, was published in Fantastyka, Poland’s leading fantasy magazine. In 1986 and collected in book form two years later as Wiedźmin (The Witcher). In the 1990s the books were translated into Czech, Russian, German and Bulgarian.

The Time of Contempt is a fantasy novel by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, first published in 1994. It is part of The Witcher series and follows events from Blood of Elves and introduces Ciri, Geralt’s daughter. This book takes place before any other story in The Witcher saga, but it was written after all other books in order to be a transition between a new reader and chronological order. This short story was originally published as a supplement to Paperback edition (first print) The Last Wish (not included in e-book version) in late 1997. Later it was included in the Bilingual edition of Narrenturm (Narrenturm means Fools’ Tower or Madhouse). In Poland, Narrenturm is not available anymore. In the English language, it can be found in a paperback edition titled: The Last Wish.

The Time of Contempt is a fantasy novel written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski and was first published in 1993. It is chronologically set before Sword of Destiny but was published after it. The main character is Geralt, also known as Gwynbleidd, or the White Wolf, a famous Witcher mercenary who appeared in previous Witcher short stories and novels as well as in The Hexer TV series. Although not directly connected to any other book, it is set before Baptism of Fire and therefore serves as an introduction to Geralt’s life before he became a witcher while also setting up some details that are important later on.
