Review About “Blood of Elves” by “Andrzej Sapkowski”
Blood of Elves, first published in Polish in 1993 as Krew elfów and later translated into Czech (1995) and French (1997), is a prequel to The Witcher saga, based on a popular series of fantasy short stories. Geralt gets to meet all his pals from later novels: Ciri, Yennefer, Triss Merigold; he also meets characters we already know – Zoltan Chivay from Jeden mieście jedno śmierć (One town one death) for example. I think that Blood of Elves is well worth reading despite being released almost 20 years ago. It gives you some nice insight into where Witchers come from and how Geralt became what he is today. You can also see how Ciri started her journey which she then continued in other books. If you are not familiar with The Witcher series, there is no need to worry – it works fine as a standalone novel.
About “Andrzej Sapkowski” the author of “Blood of Elves”
Born in 1948 in Poland, as a child Andrzej dreamed of becoming a writer. He spent his youth reading and writing poetry. When he was 18, he published his first short story in a popular Polish science fiction magazine. After obtaining a degree in economic studies, he worked for various companies before deciding to devote himself entirely to writing in 1981. His first book, titled The Witcher, was published two years later by Fantastyka Magazine. Although it became very popular almost instantly, it took him five more years to write The Witcher sequel before its publication in 1986. Since then he has written books based on that universe and set other stories there as well since they remain some of his most beloved works.
