In this darkly satirical, whip-smart send-up of the American racial experience and modern culture. Paul Beatty has created one of the most original characters in recent fiction. Born on the day his father was murdered. And raised by a single mother in the heart of North Hollywood. Bonbon has been guided by his family toward one endgame: finding the responsible party, and enacting horrific revenge.

Overview About “The Sellout” by “Paul Beatty”

The Sellout is a satirical, dystopian novel of race and racism in 21st century America. It was published to wide acclaim in 2015, winning both of that year’s National Book Critics Circle Award categories (fiction and best first book). Reviews About “The Sellout” by “Paul Beatty”

One of our book bloggers, Siya Masud, called it the most trenchant and panoramic take on race since Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man. As hilarious as it is mordant. As wild and subversive as it is sober and thoughtful. Paul Beatty’s The Sellout masterfully blends politics, sociology, humor, history, urban fiction, social commentary. And racial satire into a blazing work of art. Publishers Weekly (starred review) No one writes like Paul Beatty. He’s funny but also sad and angry and smart as hell. In his audacious first novel, The Sellout, Paul Beatty takes on America’s big questions through one man’s story: What does it mean to be black?
