It was a finalist for Crime Writers’ Association’s Gold Dagger Award, an Edgar Award nominee. And became a number one bestseller. The novel also won two first-place SCBWI Maggie Awards for Best Paperback Original (2007) and Best First Novel (2006). All three awards recognize excellence in crime writing for works published in 2006. Gone Girl which she wrote about five years later, followed Sharp Objects as her second published novel and debuted at number one on The New York Times Best Seller list and remained there for several weeks. It has been adapted into a film of the same name directed by David Fincher with Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike starring.

This is one of those books that people are going to love or hate. It’s slow in parts, but so well written and there is such a great underlying mystery. The characters are fantastic and if you know anything about what happened to Amy Adams in real life, you’ll really enjoy her portrayal of Camille Preaker. I loved it, even when I wanted to throw my iPad across my room, which is why it gets 4 stars from me. It was fantastic! The greatest part of Sharp Objects for me was how beautifully flawed these characters were (particularly Camille) and how perfectly that played into their psychoses/mental disorders/hangups/whatever else you want to call them.
