Overview About “The Stone Sky” by “N. K. Jemisin”
The Stone Sky is a captivating, thrilling read that weaves together themes of identity, family, and friendship. It is difficult to describe exactly what it is about The Stone Sky that makes it so utterly amazing, but I’ll try: The characters are absolutely fantastic; Essun is nuanced, believable, and very easy to relate to—the character development, in general, was well done; The relationships between these characters (and other non-human species) felt natural and realistic without ever being dull or boring; The story itself was extremely unpredictable and had me guessing from start to finish; And finally, I loved how incredibly sensitive it was towards issues of privilege. All in all a wonderful experience that I recommend everyone give a shot!
Reviews About “The Stone Sky” by “N. K. Jemisin”
The Stone Sky is in many ways like an emotionally fraught and morally intense version of Avatar: The Last Airbender, but with a different setting, different characters, and considerably more violence (some brutal). So it’s not that surprising that I loved it as much as I did. What is surprising was just how difficult I found it to put down whenever I had to stop reading in order to do something else; I kept finding myself constantly wanting to get back into the story when given an opportunity. That sort of quality and addictive nature goes a long way toward making me want to not only read other books from Jemisin but also write reviews for them–and encourage others to read them!
