Computing has grown in leaps and bounds over the past decade, with smartphones and other devices providing people of all ages easy access to information and communication. That was previously only available through an expensive and bulky computer or television set. With this huge leap forward, however, has come an equally large set of problems that need to be addressed if we are to keep growing as a society. Sara Baase’s book A Gift of Fire: Social, Legal, and Ethical Issues for Computing Technology provides in-depth analysis on what these problems are and how we can deal with them effectively without limiting the awesome potential that computing offers us all.

Reviews About “A Gift of Fire: Social, Legal, and Ethical Issues for Computing Technology 4th Edition”
The fourth edition is not a surprise hit. I read a lot of IT books and must say that I am almost always disappointed in at least one aspect; something to irritate me or make me think really? This book was no exception. The author spends a good deal of time discussing software design with lots of detail on how to do it right. But very little on how to do it wrong. (This is ironic since Amazon reviews claim that she spends too much time talking about what not to do). She also has an interesting format where she asks questions or poses issues and then answers them later in the chapter.
