Although there are many books available on global health, most are either too technical or limited in scope. The intent of our book is to give students, who will be working primarily in a North American or European country, both a broad overview of key issues facing developing countries around the world and specific examples that they can understand and relate to. We have written it so that it can be easily understood and hopefully inspire them to pursue careers in global health or allow them to connect with people already engaged in such work.

I highly recommend reading Global Health: Essential Public health. It has great information on public health. While it is somewhat hard to read as it’s split up into numerous chapters each describing a new disease or epidemic. It has very helpful information in each chapter. The writing style is also very easy to follow and reader-friendly. Some parts of the book do contain charts, figures, graphs that help you visualize and understand better what you are reading about. Overall I really enjoyed reading Global Health: Essential Public health and would definitely recommend it for anyone interested in learning more about public health or global health issues. I can only hope there will be another edition out soon! Until then!
About “Dr. Richad Skolnik” the Author
Dr. Richad Skolnik, Author of Global Health 101 Essentials Public Health, is professor emeritus. And founding director of Arizona State University’s School of Population Studies. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, raised in Jackson Heights, Queens, and educated at Fordham University and Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. Before joining ASU in 2002, he taught at Harvard University’s School of Public Health for 20 years.
