The story revolves around Marie. She is an interior designer living in Seattle and her brother who has left Alaska years ago. Her brother moves to Alaska when his wife dies. And he leaves his daughter with Marie, a decision that causes rifts in their relationship. When Marie hears from her parents, who are at their cabin on remote Prince of Wales Island in southeast Alaska for Thanksgiving, she learns that their lodge manager has been murdered. Fearing for her parents’ safety she immediately flies to join them only to be told that they have already left with other lodge guests for Anchorage. With no way off-island, she reluctantly accepts an invitation from Mitch Holt a former marine and fellow guest whom her parents had invited but cannot accommodate.

This book is a perfect combination of a riveting mystery, page-turning suspense, romance, and heart-warming humor. If you’ve read any of her previous novels you’ll feel right at home with all these ingredients blended into one delightful story. Do yourself a favor and grab yourself a cup of coffee or hot chocolate, curl up on your favorite reading chair or sofa and be prepared to enjoy some downtime as you travel into Fairbanks Alaska where holiday cheer is not what it seems in Alaskan Holiday. This was my first novel by Debbie Macomber and I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. It’s always nice to see characters from past novels reappear in future books.

Before she was an internationally bestselling author, Debbie Macomber (born July 16, 1948) was just a girl from Ketchikan, Alaska. She worked in a local pharmacy and then married her high school sweetheart; they had four children. She later earned an accounting degree from Ketchikan Junior College. She also learned shorthand and eventually found work as a legal secretary while raising her children at home.
