Beyond The Horizon is a character-driven mystery story. It’s about an old woman and a younger woman who takes her in for two reasons. One, she was an old friend of her father, who’s now dead, so she felt obligated to take in Edna. And two, she wanted to know more about her mother whom Edna knew well years ago. As Julia begins searching through some of her father’s personal belongings and archives of his work. She begins to wonder if there wasn’t more to him than what he let on. The deeper into things Julia goes, however, she finds that there are secrets being kept from both sides—one buried under years of pain and loneliness and one hidden behind lies and deceit.

I’m not quite sure how to describe my love for Beyond The Horizon by Ella Carey. I really enjoyed it and I can’t wait to read more from her in future books. This is a dystopian novel about a world gone wrong, where greed has overcome compassion and kindness. There are many things that don’t go well in our world today, but we have been given a warning from the author on what could happen if things went too far. I had never heard of either the terms dystopia or utopia before reading…this book. I believe that everyone should read it because it will open your eyes to many possible dangers in our futures, as well as give you an excellent idea of what one person can do to make a difference!
About “Ella Carey” the author of “Beyond the Horizon”
She wanted to be a surgeon until she found out she was colorblind. She grew up in Arkansas but spent most of her life living in London. At age eighteen, she moved to Oklahoma where she currently resides with her husband and four-year-old son. She loves spending time with her family, reading young adult novels, camping, and traveling (she just wishes she could see more of Europe). Her favorite movie is An Officer and a Gentleman which is an oldie but a goodie. Fictional character you’d like to meet: Alex Rider; one reason being that he’s so badass! Also, he lives such an interesting life in all his books that I would love to live even if it were only for 24 hours!
