Lara Vapnyar’s first novel, The Word on the Street was well-received and described as one of the greatest novels of its genre. Her new novel, Divide Me By Zero keeps up with this trend. And this novel dives deeper into the point of view of a foreign girl living in the United States after her marriage has failed. The book is meant to open people’s eyes to things that might seem commonplace. But this novel has not been looked at closely enough.
Overview About “Divide Me By Zero” by “Lara Vapnyar”
This is a book of stories about people who try to communicate with each other, love and care for each other, want to be liked and accepted, but something always goes wrong. The real problem is not in their misunderstanding of one another; it’s deeper. It’s that they have no idea how to read one another because they don’t know how to read themselves. We’ve all had these problems at one time or another: What makes me tick? What do I want? Why can’t I tell my best friend what I’m feeling? What’s so terrible about what she did anyway? Communication is an art form–we should teach our children as early as possible how to connect with others on a meaningful level.
