The Golden Son by Shilpi Somaya Gowda tells the story of Mohan. He is the son of an Indian father and an Irish mother living in Ohio. He moves to India after his fiancée breaks off their engagement. While he is there, Mohan must come to terms with his past and the events that shaped him into the man he has become. Upon his return to America, he decides to help out by teaching at an orphanage in Mumbai. But he soon realizes that something about this situation doesn’t seem right.

A former writer for People magazine, Gowda has won several journalism awards. Her work has appeared in Self, Glamour, Salon, and The Wall Street Journal, among other publications. Her short stories have been published in anthologies including Best Women’s Travel Writing and Extraordinary Experiences. In her spare time, she’s a regular contributor to Cooking Light magazine. She lives in Seattle with her husband and two children.
