A girl, who has longed to go to Oxford, gets her dream school with the help of her college adviser. And she couldn’t be happier until she finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation. Who did it? What happened? Why are they dead? Julia doesn’t know, but she must do everything she can to find out because it seems that everyone at Oxford thinks she did it! This book will have you on the edge of your seat and keep you guessing until the very end! It’s also filled with friendship, hope, love, and redemption! I highly recommend this book!
Overview About “My Oxford Year” by “Julia Whelan”
At only 21, Alice Evans is determined to escape her sheltered existence in a midwestern town and begin her first year at Oxford University. What begins as an exciting new chapter quickly turns into a nightmare when she falls for James. He is one of England’s most elite students, whose dangerous behavior grows increasingly destructive after he and Alice fall in love. Caught between loyalties to James and her own ambitions, Alice feels trapped as his life becomes increasingly unpredictable and secretive. When she finally realizes that their relationship is putting everyone around them in danger, she must make a choice between following her heart or protecting those she loves most. My Oxford Year is about finding yourself among strangers; realizing that you can only truly be happy with yourself when you stop trying to please everyone else.
Reviews About “My Oxford Year” by “Julia Whelan”
My Oxford Year is a part beautiful love story, part gentle family drama. The story unfolds in different chapters with different narrators and past tense chapters as well as present tense chapters (which I’m not normally a fan of but found myself enjoying here.) Part of what I loved so much about My Oxford Year was how it felt like such an escape. Reading about Hannah’s life and adventures in England was truly like slipping into another world, one that you could get lost in for hours at a time. What also made My Oxford Year such an enjoyable read were its characters—I wanted to be Hannah’s friend! She was friendly and relatable but also flawed and vulnerable which made her feel all too real.
