Overview About “Dead Mountain” by “Donnie Eichar”
Although I can’t claim to have read every first-hand account of expeditions to Dead Mountain, an avalanche-prone peak in China’s Sichuan province, many of which included a detailed description of an encounter with certain death at its summit. There were two chapters in Dead Mountain. The True Story of The Dyatlov Pass Incident gave me pause. In one chapter, for example, author Donnie Eichar recounts how a hiker strays from his group. And gets lost in a blizzard on a snowy pass near their campsite. His companions eventually find him dead from hypothermia several hours later.
Reviews About “Dead Mountain” by “Donnie Eichar”
Dead Mountain is unlike any book I’ve ever read. It’s an adventure story and a mystery wrapped into one. But most of all it’s a love letter to mothers everywhere. One thing that makes it stand out from your typical adventure tale is that there are no other humans on Dead Mountain; not a single soul. The only human characters in Dead Mountain are long-dead bodies, frozen in time.
About “Donnie Eicher” the author of “Dead Mountain”
The author of Dead Mountain is an unnamed ex-Army Ranger who climbed into a cave on Mount Everest to get away from his mundane existence and ended up in another world. The title Dead Mountain refers to both an extinct volcano where he was transported through a black wormhole and, later, Everest itself. It’s at Everest where he encounters Lobsang. A guide for yetis who are seeking revenge against humans for plundering their region, collecting pelts, and doing other despicable things. The Yeti culture also has an interesting take on how people should behave: must not covet others’ things or hurt others needlessly.
