Easy is a love story that deals with addiction, both to drugs and to sex. Having read other novels about these subjects (like Just One Day), I have to say that I really enjoyed Easy. The characters felt real, and while they did things that were definitely questionable morally, they at least felt realistic. Sometimes when reading a book with an addict in it, you get frustrated by their choices and wonder why they can’t just ‘snap out of it.’ However, in Easy, it’s difficult not to understand why Allyson does what she does because there’s such an effortless characterization of Allyson’s addiction. She feels compelled to continue doing things even when she knows she should stop because her life has become completely consumed by her addiction.
