Try Not to Breathe by Holly Seddon was the biggest surprise book that I have read in 2015 so far. I haven’t read any of Holly Seddon’s previous novels but her writing blew me away with how realistic and dark it was; this book was addictive from start to finish and was impossible to put down.

Holly Seddon writes her first novel called Try Not To Breathe which is a literary thriller. The book reveals some twists and turns which can take you on a roller coaster ride while reading it. In most of her interviews, she revealed that she was writing something but could not tell what exactly because of its confidentiality. Few months before its release date, a few TV critics got hold of one part of the manuscript and leaked it on the internet. The author then filed a lawsuit against them for putting out pre-release content without her permission or consent.

When I first read about Try Not to Breathe on a few different websites, I didn’t know what it was about. A thriller, sure…but of what kind? So I decided to download it from audible and give it a listen. It’s fantastic! The story is told from several different points of view as you meet each of them and learn how they are related. As someone who listens to audiobooks in my car, often driving for an hour or more a day, I love being able to take part in multiple stories at once. On that note, if you’re a person who loves audiobooks but doesn’t like listening all at once because of your schedule or whatever reason, don’t worry! This book can be listened to multiple times without getting boring.

The protagonist in my debut novel, Try Not to Breathe, is a young woman named Lou Clark. She lives in a small town called Boringdon and she’s recently lost her job. On top of that, she has a feisty grandmother who relies on her for all sorts of things, including emotional support. When Gramps dies, Lou decides that Granny should be happy rather than languishing at home alone. So Lou persuades Granny—against her better judgment—to move into a nearby nursing home. While there, they both experience some surprises: surprises that include true love but also mysterious circumstances.
