Why We Broke Up is a novel written by YA author Daniel Handler. It is about Min Green and Ed Salterton, Salterton up during their relationship. And how they end up living on opposite sides of town in San Francisco. The two meet again after breaking up where Min gives Ed a box of items that he gave her when they were dating. The book is told from both of their points of view and goes through six stages, which are entries into Min’s letter to Ed. I enjoyed reading Why We Broked Up because it kept me on my toes with every entry. And I could not predict what was going to happen next. I also loved that there were full-page illustrations throughout!

Why We Broke Up is an honest, clever novel written in a letter format that I think every teenage girl will find relatable. The story starts with a few letters from Min to Ed that describe why she broke up with him, including stories of when they first met and stories about other relationships she had been in throughout their relationship. The first part of her letter starts off slow but becomes much more interesting as you read on. This book is a good choice for someone who likes emotional stories or sad break-up novels and movies. If you want to know what happens to Min and Ed after they break up. You can read Why Did You Break My Heart by Kunal Nayyar which is told from Ed’s perspective.
