The 9th edition of Probability and Statistics for Engineering and the Sciences by Jay L. Devore has been the leading probability and statistics textbook for over 30 years. Written in an approachable, easy-to-understand style, it continues to be popular with students and instructors alike.
Overview About “Probability and Statistics for Engineering and the Sciences 9th Edition”
This book covers, in an engineering context, all of the elementary probability theory, discrete random variables, continuous random variables (including probability density functions), joint distributions, conditional distributions, Bayes’ theorem, and its use in classifying data as well as hypothesis testing. Fundamental mathematical relationships between various types of statistics are treated: simple descriptive statistics (median; range; measures of spread including variance and standard deviation); measures of association such as regression analysis; significance tests including sampling distribution, confidence intervals for population means or proportions; correlation and covariance, etc.; all based on or derived from probability theory.
Reviews About “Probability and Statistics for Engineering and the Sciences 9th Edition”
I recently purchased a new book on probability and statistics. It’s a typical engineering book, which means it has lots of formulas, diagrams, complex calculations – all designed to give a student exactly what they need to know to pass an exam without understanding how or why something works in reality. The book is Probability and Statistics for Engineering and Science by Jay L. Devore (9th edition). Here are some reviews about it. I am currently using it to teach my college-level course. This textbook has very good examples that help students learn concepts as well as get through exams. This was one of our required books for my Matlab class.
