I had never read anything by Baker before. But I’m delighted that I got a chance to read it with all these wonderful words of praise on the cover. For me, it wasn’t just unique or different, although those are accurate descriptions; more important, it was compelling and moving without being sentimental or predictable.

Reviews About “She Would Be King” by “Wayétu Moore”

She would be king is a great book for anyone that loves mythology, history, and young adult fiction. This was my first book from wayétu Moore, I will definitely be reading her other books! The combination of various cultures (black, white, Native American) was fascinating. The characters were easy to relate to and relate to. I really enjoyed getting to know these people! There is magic, but there is also love and heartbreak. She would be king certainly isn’t perfect. Some parts dragged on a bit longer than they needed to or had events in them that made little sense to me. But overall it was good enough that I can easily see myself rereading it again someday! If you enjoy dark young adult reads then you should give this one a try.
